Flying With Scissors
I was recently going though airport security when I heard the X-ray lady say, “We need to search this bag.” Immediately it hit me that I had packed both a small pocket knife and a pair of titanium scissors in my carry on. The blood stirred in my face as I though about what I would say to explain myself, “I had eight minutes to catch a bus to the airport and in the fury of packing I didn’t think about what I was doing…” Those thoughts were cut short as I realized that it was not my bag the lady was talking about. My bag popped out of the X-ray machine and I grabbed it and went on my way.
Images from the recent movie United 93 came to my mind. “I thought, “I could do some real damage to someone with these scissors.” After I arrived in Dallas, I looked up “carry on restrictions” on the internet and found that scissors like these are totally legal to bring on a major airline. I think that it’s interesting that, as Americans we want everything to be 100 percent safe, but nothing ever is. I’m sure a group on unarmed ninjas could take out a plane.
