Montage of a Summer: New York City

I’m back from being in New York for six weeks. Here are a few of my favorite memories of the summer:

This picture was taken in parody of two girls who had just met a few days before where taking pictures of themselves hugging. Brandon and I are demonstrating the more violent nature of how guys bond with each other. Later that evening all the guys of our art track came to my apartment and we bonded through laughing hysterically at our favorite internet videos and websites.

In the midst of not knowing if I would have any friends to do things with on the weekend I was blessed by my new friends Sarah and Rowena. We enjoyed the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and “Nacho Libre” together.

I fell in love with the subway system.

So easy and convenient!

One of my favorite moments of the summer was actually on the evening I found out my Grandma had passed away. My friend Devon and I ended up winning $25 lottery tickets to the musical “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” We laughed so much and we had front row tickets! It was an amazing blessing to my heart in the midst of sad news for my family. I think my Grandma would have been glad I was able to go and enjoy it so much.

This is from the Brooklyn Bridge on a rainy day! I loved all the old buildings and architecture. There is always something interesting to look at.

God answered my prayers in marvelous ways to give our art team direction and grew many of us in confidence to use the gifts that He’s given us.

Twenty four of us worked collaboratively to put on an art exhibition in East Chelsea. This is my favorite painting that was made by a brilliant, young, art student, Jen.

Times Square was one of my favorite parts of Manhattan. I must confess I love musicals, besides “Putnam County” I saw: “Phantom of the Opera” and “Wicked.” Not a fun place to walk around because it’s so crowded, but a fun place to be.

By the end of the project I was humbled that God would use me in the lives of the three students that I discipled. I so enjoy the counseling aspect of discipleship. I know how broken and weak my own life is and God uses the insights He has taught me to help others find deeper spiritual freedom in the love of Jesus.
