Bolder Boulder '06

On Memorial Day over 46,000 runners, joggers, and walkers convened in Boulder, Colorado to for a nice leisurely 10K race. I ran the 6.2 mile race in 55 minutes and 55 seconds which was five seconds faster than my goal! That was running nine minute miles and I honestly didn’t think I would be able to run it that fast. I did regret eating an apple so late. I threw up twice on the very last hill, which marked the very first time I have ever vomited do to physical exertion. My family was there at the finish and my middle niece ran and walked it as well. It was also a terrific day for eating my Mom’s homemade potato salad.

Song of the Angels

While in L.A. we went to the Getty Museum where I discovered a remarkable French painter from the 19th century; William Adolphe Bouguereau. When I waked around a corner and saw Song of the Angels it hit me in the face! I was so… stuck by it.I wonder if Mary can hear the music? Or if she opened her eyes, would she be able to see them? It makes me wonder about what mysterious beauty there is around me and if I’m too distracted with my own life and thoughts to perceive it.

Flying With Scissors

I was recently going though airport security when I heard the X-ray lady say, “We need to search this bag.” Immediately it hit me that I had packed both a small pocket knife and a pair of titanium scissors in my carry on. The blood stirred in my face as I though about what I would say to explain myself, “I had eight minutes to catch a bus to the airport and in the fury of packing I didn’t think about what I was doing…” Those thoughts were cut short as I realized that it was not my bag the lady was talking about. My bag popped out of the X-ray machine and I grabbed it and went on my way.
Images from the recent movie United 93 came to my mind. “I thought, “I could do some real damage to someone with these scissors.” After I arrived in Dallas, I looked up “carry on restrictions” on the internet and found that scissors like these are totally legal to bring on a major airline. I think that it’s interesting that, as Americans we want everything to be 100 percent safe, but nothing ever is. I’m sure a group on unarmed ninjas could take out a plane.

Smoke ‘Em if You Got ‘Em: Part Two

Do you know this pot head? If you do you could get $50 from the CU Boulder Police Department. Check out this link and view all 200 students who were unlucky enough to get their picture taken—I wonder if Mom and Dad will ever find out?
This same site shows a photo of a sign warning people that the field was closed and basically said, “Trespassers beware we will be photographing you!” As you can see from the picture from my earlier post Smoke ‘Em if You Got ‘Em I was trespassing myself, but my conscious is clean, I didn’t happen to see any of those 200 signs! Granted I wasn’t looking for them and there were at least a thousand students around the field. Stay tuned as I hope to announce a Video Podcast about 4/20 that will show in the next month or two.
